Betty just came over with her finds for the week so I could photograph them and post them for her. While I was buying gold teeth, and Randy was building display cases, and Bob(TX) was digging gold rings, and George was limbering up for the Busch Light competition :), Betty was hard at work scooping up massive amounts of treasure from the beach with her X3. Betty has a house at the beach, and hits it every morning and evening, before and after the sunbathers.

Highlights of the week were...

  • A beautiful 14kt gold and diamond necklace
  • A 14kt wedding band
  • A bunch of silver toe and finger rings
  • One silver quarter, 8 silver dimes, 5 wheaties
  • 879 clad coins and a plethora of other odds and ends

The majority of finds were from the wet sand and were very deep. The X3 remained stable, weathered a few showers, and never gave up the chase :).

Congratulations on an awesome week of detecting, Betty! Aug. 24, 03

Not counting all the change, sunglasses, fishing sinkers, toys and miscellaneous "junque," these are the better wet (salt) and dry sand finds Betty made with her Shadow X3 last week at the beach. When the season is over, we'll post her entire summer's finds, which are very impressive! The watch is a nice ladies Citizen, which is still ticking :). There's a silver and blue topaz ring, silver toe ring, pewter angel pendant, pair of silver and CZ earrings, 14kt white gold ring with 6 diamonds, 14kt sapphire and diamond ring, and a Tiffany & Co. silver ring on the lower right. Funny how a name like Tiffany & Co. can hike the value of a piece that would normally be worth very little. Because it is Tiffany, and a Paloma Picasso design, it retails for around $200.00! Without that marking, it would be worth just a couple bucks, so it was a good find. I checked out the diamonds in the band ring, and they are of good quality and weigh 1/3 carat. Betty hunts hard, puts her time in and gets results! Plus, she loves her X3 :). Aug, 25, 2004

TEAM SHADOW EAST AT BELMAR, NJ!

Posted By: Amy
Date: Sunday, 10 April 2005

Mother Nature couldn't have delivered a more perfect day for the Jersey Coast Th'ers Club open hunt in Belmar, N.J.! Four members of Team Shadow East attended, and took 3 of the "Top 10" tokens. Of those three, Betty "Lucky" Sullivan snagged two - one for the top prize MXT metal detector! The hunt fields were generously seeded with clad, silver and tokens for proof sets, big silver and gold coins. About 90 people attended, and we all got our fill of sun, fun, sand and surf! The Shadow 10 x 5 DD coils are KILLER in competition hunts :). Here's a pic of "Lucky," Dennis and me. We took some with Jim in them but they came out a little fuzzy.

Here's "Lucky" holding up her two "Top 10" envelopes. The other envelope contained a card saying "Cash for next year's hunt," and included a 10 dollar bill. We're not quite sure if the $10.00 was the prize or that she will receive free admission to next year's hunt?

Here's Jim Goodermuth showing the two gold coins he won with his "Top 10" token.

We'll call her "Lucky" AND Happy as Betty holds up the 5TH detector she's won in competition hunts! Congratulations, Betty! Your golden horseshoe is still working!

THIS IS WHY WE CALL HER "LUCKY" :)

Anyone who knows my hunting partner, Betty Sullivan, has witnessed her incredible luck. That's not to undermine her skill and the sheer effort she puts into detecting, but I truly believe some people are tapped into luck waves, and Betty is at the uppermost level :).

Betty just returned from 5 days at the beach, and WOW, she made some incredible finds! The first day was a windy one on the beach in Atlantic City. No sooner did Betty step on the beach when she looked down to see a 100 dollar bill! About 15 minutes later and further down the beach, ANOTHER 100 dollar bill! Another 15 minutes and a 20 dollar bill! Back on Long Beach Island where Betty owns a summer home, she hit a highly productive cut. Her totals over the 5 days were 147 quarters, 81 dimes, 65 nickels, 192 pennies, 2 foreign coins, silver jewelry, junk jewelry, toys and other miscellaneous finds. She also found a class ring and has already called the school to locate the owner. It must have been freshly dropped since the date is 2007. It almost seems unimaginable, but with Betty's combination of skill, luck, determination and her trusty X3 with the DD coil, anything is possible! Here are her finds:

MORE ADVENTURES OF "LUCKY" BETTY!

Betty had two very happy guests show up at her door last Saturday, but first we'll back up to the finds... The week before, Betty found a class ring with a date of 2007. Knowing it must have been recently lost, she contacted the school named on the ring. Also, the girl's name was inside. The school passed on the information to the owner, and she was happily reunited with her ring on Saturday.

The story on the second ring is great! Betty was detecting the beach and a fisherman approached her and told her a man had been frantically looking for his wedding band the day before without any luck. A while later, another man approached and told her the same story. He said he had looked for it with a "cheap" detector with no success. Neither man had the name of the person who lost the ring but they knew there was an inscription inside with the couple's names and their wedding date. Enter Betty with her Shadow X3 and DD coil... the ring was found! Betty contacted the Police and put an ad in the local paper. She received a call from the Chief of Police almost immediately. The man who lost the ring had left his name and number and a description of the ring at the Police station. The date inside was 1995, and this was his 10th year anniversary. Now here's the good part of the story...I asked Betty how the man had lost the ring, and when he picked it up at Betty's house he told her he had a baggie full of those Goldfish crackers for his kids, and he slipped the ring into the baggie for safe keeping. What he didn't know was a seagull was watching the snackfest, and when the man took the kids down to the water, that seagull swooped down and grabbed the baggie with the ring inside! The ring must have shook out of the baggie while the seagull was flying with it or when it was pecking out the goldfish! Needless to say, the man was thrilled and more than a little surprised that his ring was found and returned to him :). Here's the pictures taken of Betty returning the rings to their owners:

PART II - THE LAWS OF GOOD KARMA

In Response To: MORE ADVENTURES OF "LUCKY" BETTY! (Amy)

After Betty returned the rings to their owners Saturday, we headed to the beach on Sunday. Not only is Betty lucky and skilled, but she also returns more jewelry than anyone I know. In return, I think she's rewarded for always doing the right thing because she had another great day on the beach! Her finds included a 14kt gold and blue topaz ring, a silver ring with turquoise and coral inlay, a silver religious medallion and a buffalo nickel. The third picture is a nice Movado watch she found on the beach a few weeks ago. What goes around comes around.
