Shadow X5 Finds by Robert Lewis of New England
Hi , my name is Bob Lewis and have I got a never ending story for you. Well to the point of this story. Last year I purchased a metal detector, green in color and quite inexpensive. Was unsure as to weather or not I would like the hobby. Needless to say, I was hooked from the start. So like most I had to upgrade, stayed green but then wanted more so I got the opportunity to purchase.a used like new Beige in color, programmable, Iron masking, 9 1/2 inch DD coil, deep sensitive, high priced, heavy, top of the line detector. I hunted my heart out and found lots of good stuff including quite a few old deep coins. But this machine was breaking my back. When I hunt, I hunt all day. This summer I decided to start looking for a detector that was light, easy to operate, deep, sensitive and a down to earth basic machine. But where could I find a machine that would equal the Beige machine that I already had? Finally I heard about the Shadow X5 and thought this machine is just what I'm looking for. So I started doing research on it , being a relatively new machine I was having trouble finding people to talk to about this machine. Even my local dealer told me I already had the best machine going and dropped the subject . I just couldn't get the Shadow off my mind. I liked the color, I like the lack of weight, [just two and a half lbs.] I was convinced that the Shadow was a deep machine and I was running my Beige machine basically by tone more then display and the Shadow had no display. Couldn't take it anymore, so I bought the Shadow X5 on a whim. I am now one happy hunter, I couldn't have made a better choice if everyone in town owned one and they paid for it for me. This machine is a basic, easy to run, feather light, deep, sensitive, coin busting, work all day, kick butt machine and I have the goods to prove it. I have had the Shadow X5 for three weeks as of this writing and the finds I've unearthed are unbelievable. I've hunted over areas that I've covered many times with my old machine and popped more older silver then before. I have a thing for old farm fields, they are time consuming but productive. The Shadow X5 has given me the power to hunt fast and all day long. The 9 inch coil gives good coverage and good depth. I hunt with the Disc. set at 7 . I call this cherry picking for old coins. I dig all repeatable signals and get from Indian heads up. The type of hunting that I do at this setting gives me very little trash, and I lose no depth. I just dug a colonial copper at 10 plus inches and a 1/2 Reale at 7 inches, so you see this machine is one go getter and I would recommend it to anyone beginner or pro. |

I stopped by this old house that I just got permission to hunt, I think its been hunted before. The people who own it live out of town and have never let anyone hunt it , so I think it got hit at night. But I did manage these, enough to make me want to go back. Love my X5.. The X5 hard at work, it never says quit. Sept. 23, 2004 D.B. drove down from Maine to meet and hunt with me today. We hunted hard all day and in the last hour I made a great find for me. I have just broken my oldest coin record for the second time this week. But more then that I made a much greater find, A new friend. We have the greatest hobby in the world my friends, if you don't believe it just think of all the finds you've made. HAPPY HUNTING. 1721 - 2 Reale... Robert - Oct. 13, 2004 |

I topped my OLDEST coin twice this week. Went from a 1788 Conn. down to a 1786/7 Vermont down to a 1721 Two Reale. Now my fourth FIRST this week. The Vermont, The Two Reale, The I'm not telling yet and now a beautiful 1864 Two Cent piece in EF. You know for someone who's only had a Shadow X5 for Three months and doesn't know what he's doing and calls it a simple machine to run, I'm having one H$#^& good time this summer. Don't anyone burst my bubble and tell me I'm doing it wrong cause the coins don't know that. HAPPY HUNTING. Oct. 17, 2004

I am not a relic hunter, I am an old coin hunter. All these coins are found with the X5. I have mastered the X5 and can pluck a coin from your local dump (almost). There is a good reason why I want my old coins posted. It lets people know the X5 is more than a relic machine. Thanx Bob

The X5 didn't leave me empty today - But it left me curious. Debbie says she found a Jeep like it and it dates 1943. August 21, 2005
